Yes. QuarterBridge connects directly to HMRC's official Making Tax Digital APIs using secure OAuth 2.0 authentication. Your data is transmitted directly to HMRC's servers via their approved developer endpoints.

Do I need to stop using my spreadsheet?

Absolutely not — that's the entire point. QuarterBridge is bridging software. You keep your records exactly where they are (Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, LibreOffice, CSV — whatever you use). You upload your file each quarter, we format it for HMRC, and submit.

What happens if I miss a quarterly deadline?

HMRC operates a points-based penalty system. Each missed quarterly deadline adds one late submission point. Once you accumulate 4 points, you receive a £200 fine, and each subsequent late submission triggers another £200 penalty.

Is my financial data secure?

Accepted Answer

Your spreadsheet is parsed locally in your browser — the file data never touches our servers until you explicitly hit submit. HMRC OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest using AES-256 encryption. All data transmission uses TLS 1.3 encryption. We are registered with the ICO and fully GDPR-compliant.

Can I use this for multiple rental properties?

Accepted Answer

On the Starter plan, you can submit for one income source. The Landlord Pro plan supports unlimited properties and self-employment income sources, with a consolidated view across all your properties.

Who needs to comply with MTD for ITSA?

Accepted Answer

From April 2026, sole traders and landlords with combined qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC. This expands to those earning over £30,000 from April 2027, and over £20,000 from April 2028.

What's the difference between bridging software and accounting software?

Accepted Answer

Accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) replaces your entire record-keeping system with their platform. Bridging software connects your existing records to HMRC without changing how you work. If you're happy with your spreadsheet and don't need invoicing, bank feeds, or payroll — bridging software is simpler, cheaper, and faster.
